RANG SOPAN 2--Kavalam Narayana Panikkar,

This year Madhya Pradesh Cultural Department facilitates Kavalam Narayana Panikkar by Organzing Rang Sopan 2, Sh. Panikkar , born on 28 April 1928,  is an Indian dramatist, theatre director and poet. He has written over 26 Malayalam plays, many adapted from classical Sanskrit drama and Shakespeare, notably Madhyamavyayogam , Kalidasa's Vikramorvasiyam, Shakuntalam , Karnabharam , Bhasa's Uru Bhangam, Swapnavasavadattam and Dootavakyam . He is the founder-director of theatre troupe, Sopanam, which led to the foundation of 'Bhashabharati: Centre for Performing Arts, Training and Research, in Trivandrum.

He was awarded the 1983 Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in Direction by Sangeet Natak Akademi, India's National Academy of Music, Dance and Drama, which gave him its highest award for lifetime achievement the Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship in 2002.

He started his career as a lawyer in 1955 and practised law for six years before devoting himself to art and literature. In 1961 he was nominated as Secretary of Kerala Sangeetha Nadaka Academy, Thrissur and shifted his base to Thrissur, the cultural capital of Kerala. His work has always been rooted in both the classical and folk traditions of Kerala.

In 1974, Kavalam shifted his residence to the state capital Thiruvananthapuram. In this period his play Avanavan Kadamba was filmed by G. Aravindan. He has worked in many countries, including the former Soviet Union. In Greece he worked with Greek artists on a production of the Ilyayana, a fusion of the Indian Ramayana and the Greek epic Iliad.

He has directed two movies about the greatest Kutiyattam maestro legendary actor Guru Mani Madhava Chakyar: Mani Madhava Chakyar: The Master at Work (1994) and Parvati Viraham (1993) in Kuttiyattam form featuring Mani Madhava Chakyar as Ravana.[6] As a lyricist in Malayalam cinema, he has written for films like Ulsavapittennu, Manjadikuru (2008), Vadakakkoru Hridayam (1978) and Marmaram (1982).

He has remained a consultant at Asianet Communications and vice chairman for Sangeet Natak Akademi, New Delhi.

Nandinik Bhopal organised "My Language is My Soul' on the occassion of International Mother Language Day on February 21, 2013. Mr. Jason Marlin from USA, Mr. Richard Wanyonyi from kenya, Professor Subhabroto Roy Choudhury, Vice Chancellor, Teckno India University, Kolkata, Mr. Surya Bhattacharyya, and Mr. Rupam Ganguly, Bhopal were expressed their views on the Importance of Mother Tounge. NANDINIK also made a thoughtful documentary created by Partha Dutta on the subject. All members of NANDINIK Theatre Group including Taposh Sinha Roy, President and Mr. Deepu Das, Group Director ware present there. Somdev Sen coordinated the entire programme.

उरुभंगम

उरुभंगम भारतीय शास्त्रीय नाटकों में उत्कृष्ट कृति रूप में जाना जाता है। भास का उरुभंगम संस्कृत नाटिकाओं में आयामी दृष्टिकोण तथा मनुष्य के गुणों के जीवन्त चित्रण के कारण कौमुदी के सामान खिला दिखता है। भास् लिखित प्रत्येक श्लोक वृतांत के अलावा कृति की श्रेष्ठता को दर्शाता है। प्रत्येक श्लोक में मात्र वर्णन ही नहीं, बल्की चरम की सीमा है जिसे वह कोई पटाकसथाना (ड्रमेटिक आयरनी) की मदद से दक्षता से संचालित करता है। इसी कारण हम भास् की गणना स्वर्णिम काल के सर्वाधिक महत्वपूर्ण नाटककार के रूप में करते हैं।

कथानक महाभारत युद्ध के अंतिम चरण पर आधारित है। नाटक आमुख रूप से भीम एवं दुर्योधन के बीच के युद्ध का प्रभावकारी एवं दुर्योधन के त्रसदीपूर्ण अंत का वर्णन है। इस कथा में कृष्ण भीम को दुर्योधन की जंघा को तोरने का संकेत देते हूए दिखलाई देते है।

लढ़ाई के उपरांत दुर्जय दृष्टिहीन राज धृतराष्ट्र, गांधारी एवं दुर्योधन की समस्त रानियों को लेकर समरभूमि, जिसे सामंतापांचाका के नाम से जानते है, लेकर आते हैं।

मृत्यू पूर्व वक्तव्य में दुर्योधन अपने राज्यकाल पर संतोष, गर्व, दायित्व एवं कर्तव्यों का उल्लेख करते हैं। वे मानते हैं की ये सभी कारक उन्हें स्वर्ग में सर्वाधिक सुन्दर स्थान प्राप्त करने में सहायक सिद्ध होंगे।
