Tarak and Jamuna, a couple are two universal characters. If the two faces projected in the drama are erased, there will emerge a multitude of such faceless characters swarming around globally and thriving in all the strata’s of the society. The so called popular phrase ‘casting couch’ which is used to maybe further a career, get undue or out of turn benefits, which exists from Bollywood to Hollywood, zamindari to the downtrodden, in the so called recent Corporate world, etc. Excuses, reasons, justifications maybe numerous but the underlying fact which cannot be toned down is the moral point. Here comes in the individual character with its distinctive characteristics alongwith the universal question, to give up or to restrain oneself.
The Drama “Par Purush” adapted from a popular Bengali short story is set in regional surroundings and enacted in a dialect. Tarak and Jamuna are not to be judged harshly because they are in a far away place, still innocent and sweet, away from this hardened society. Yet the unwritten lines of the Drama will project a universal truth, which however much is swept under the carpet always peeps out.
This sounds interesting. The picture of the lead actor comes across as representing a very powerful, yet real, character. Is there any way I could get a recording of the play or possible date and venue of its next performance?
